Terms of service

Trapdoor gives you disposable URLs that record the HTTP requests sent to them, and shows you what arrived. It is a development and debugging tool. It is not a message queue, a backup, or a system of record, and it should not be relied on as any of those.

There are no accounts, passwords, or logins. Access is by capability: whoever holds a trapdoor URL can read every request it captured, and whoever holds a licence key gets the limits that licence pays for.

That is a deliberate design, and it has a consequence you are responsible for: anyone you give a link or a key to has the access it carries. Keep both as you would keep a password.

Do not use Trapdoor to:

• carry real production traffic, personal data about other people, health or financial records, or anything else you are under a duty to protect;
• attack, overload, or probe systems you do not control, or to disguise the origin of traffic that does;
• host content for others to load — trapdoor responses are served sandboxed and are not a hosting product;
• break the law where you are, or where the service runs.

Trapdoors that appear to be doing any of this may be deleted without notice. If that happens to a paying licence, the unused part of the current period is refunded.

Free trapdoors keep their most recent 200 requests, truncate stored bodies at 256 KB, and are deleted 7 days after their last request. Pro raises those to 5,000 requests, 5 MB, and 90 days. Current figures are always on the pricing page.

Reaching a limit deletes the oldest data, not the newest. Expiry deletes the trapdoor and everything it captured. Neither is recoverable, by us or by you — export anything you need to keep.

Pro is 9 US dollars per month, billed by Stripe, renewing until cancelled. Cancel any time from the billing portal linked on the pricing page; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.

Cancelling does not delete anything. Trapdoors keep the limits they were created with, so history you paid to retain stays retained. New trapdoors are created on free-tier limits.

Ask within 30 days of a charge and it is refunded, in full, without needing a reason. Write to greykiko@icloud.com.

Beyond 30 days, refunds are given where the service failed to do what this page says it does. Because a subscription can be cancelled at any time and takes effect at the end of the period, unused months after a cancellation do not arise.

Trapdoor is provided as it is, with no promise of uptime, no service level agreement, and no guarantee that data will survive. It runs on infrastructure that can fail, and it is maintained on a best-effort basis.

If that is not good enough for what you are doing — and for anything production-facing it should not be — the source is available and you can run your own.

To the extent the law where you are allows it, liability for any claim arising out of using Trapdoor is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim. For a free user that is nothing; for a Pro user it is what you were charged.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Consumer protection law where you live may give you rights this page cannot take away, and it does not attempt to.

These terms can change. Material changes will move the effective date at the top of this page, and anyone with an active subscription will be told by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that is acceptance; if you would rather not, cancel and ask for a refund of the current period.
